These happy little snowman cross stitch patterns and their friends are my favorite way to welcome someone new to stitching. There is a snowman family bundled up in scarves, a round penguin in a red bobble hat, a polar bear cub hugging a present, a bunny whizzing along on a sled and a trio of geometric snowflakes. Every single one is beginner friendly.

Penguin and polar bear cross stitch for first projects
Big blocks of color, simple shapes and two to eight colors make these quick, relaxing stitches. Most are 36 to 44 stitches across, so they finish at about 2.5 to 3 inches on 14 count aida, perfect for mini hoops, Christmas cards or ornaments. The Snowman Family and Snowflake Trio are a little wider, around 4 inches, and the snowflakes look lovely as a bookmark or a band.
They are also great for stitching with kids on a snowy afternoon. Each pattern is an instant PDF with color, black and white, large print and Pattern Keeper charts, plus a DMC floss key. Find more easy designs on my beginner cross stitch patterns page.
Good to know
Are these patterns a physical kit?
No, these are digital PDF patterns. You download them instantly after checkout. Fabric, thread and hoop are not included, and each pattern lists exactly which DMC colors you need.
Are they suitable for beginners?
Every pattern has an honest difficulty label. Beginner patterns use a small palette, full cross stitches only and very little confetti, so they are lovely first projects.
Can I use Pattern Keeper?
Yes. Every pattern includes a Pattern Keeper friendly PDF along with the full-color and black & white charts.
