About this pattern

A happy little heart with a big smile, made for tiny hands and big holes. It's my favorite way to introduce a child to cross stitch, and I wanted every family to be able to try it for free.

The heart is 20 x 18 stitches and uses just two colors: red for the heart and dark brown for the face. On 11-count Aida it's about 1.8 x 1.6 inches, and on 6-count Binca or plastic canvas it's about 3 inches, which is lovely and big for first stitches.

Tucked inside is my one-page parent guide, "Stitching with your little one": which fabric to choose, why a blunt needle and short thread make life easier, how to get started from the middle, and ways to celebrate the finished piece.

You get a full color chart, a black and white symbol chart, a large print version, a Pattern Keeper compatible PDF and a floss key. Have fun stitching together!

Questions

How do I get my pattern?

Free patterns download instantly after you join the letter on the free patterns page.

Is this a physical kit?

No. This is a digital PDF download. No fabric, thread or hoop is included and nothing is shipped. The floss key lists every DMC color you need.

How do I print it?

Print at 100% scale (or "actual size") on US Letter or A4 paper. The black & white chart saves ink and is easy to read. You can also stitch straight from a tablet.

Does it work with Pattern Keeper?

Yes. A Pattern Keeper friendly PDF is included, so you can import it and mark stitches off as you go. Backstitch (if any) is listed separately, because Pattern Keeper only tracks full crosses.

What if something is wrong with my file?

If a file has a problem, we'll fix it or refund you. Just send Sara a message. See the refund policy for details.
