About this pattern
This patchwork quilt sampler cross stitch pattern is sixteen classic quilt blocks in a sashed frame, made to stitch one block at a time. I love a slow winter project: stitch a block, color it in, and come back next week for the next.
What's inside
- The full sampler chart (120 x 120 stitches, 8 colors) plus every block as its own one-page chart: log cabin, Ohio star, nine-patch, flying geese, sweetheart, churn dash, pinwheel, bear's paw, sawtooth star, friendship star, shoo-fly, pine tree, rail fence, courthouse steps, hourglass and little hearts
- Color, black & white and large print PDFs, plus Pattern Keeper and OXS files
- A "one block at a time" plan with where each block starts on the full chart, and a block tracker to color in
- 4 colorways: Winter indigo, Scrappy, Red & cream and Sage farmhouse
- Floss key with skein amounts, a real-size page and a progress tracker
Sizes The finished sampler is about 8.6 x 8.6 inches on 14 count, 7.5 inches on 16 count or 6.7 inches on 18 count. Each block chart is 32 x 32 stitches with its sashing (2.3 inches on 14 count); the block inside is 24 x 24.
Stitch time Each block takes about 1 to 3 hours (2 to 4 with the sashing around it) and the whole sampler about 40 hours, so one block a week sees you through to spring. That's estimated at about 200 stitches an hour; your pace may vary.
It's a lovely pick for quilters who stitch and anyone wanting a calm new-year project. Full stitches only, no backstitch. I'd use white 14 count Aida, or oatmeal for the Sage colorway.
