About this pattern
Every October I fill the front steps with pumpkins, and the heirloom ones are always my favorite: a bright orange one, a pale cream one and a dusty sage one. So I gave them their own little patch, with curly vines, big green leaves and a few autumn leaves drifting down.
The shapes are simple and bold, with clear outlines and gentle curved ribs, so it's a relaxing stitch and a lovely first fall project. There are no tricky single stitches to chase around, just nice big areas of color.
It's 70 x 50 stitches and uses 10 DMC colors. On 14 count Aida it finishes at about 5 x 3.6 inches, which fits a 6 inch hoop or a small oval hoop. I'd stitch it on antique white or cream so the cream pumpkin stays soft and warm.
It makes a sweet mantel piece from September right through Thanksgiving, and a lovely handmade gift for anyone who loves a good pumpkin patch.
